God’s Promise for the New Year

As a new year approaches, many unknown variables lie ahead in the life of each person. No one knows if the new year holds only good things for them, or if their life will be upended by the unforeseen storms of life. The best laid plans for the upcoming year can be changed at any moment by a phone call or a diagnosis that renders the best of intentions moot. Those who seek to control their destiny may find they are not in control of anything as the year progresses.

In spite of all the “ifs,” “ands,” or “buts” that could happen, God has given HIS promise in Scripture that “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22). Each morning we can count on the sun rising even if clouds obscure it; we will have twenty-four hours in each of our days; and the moon will be in the sky come nightfall, shining brightly surrounded by twinkling stars as far as the eye can see and beyond. We can count on the spring thaw, leaves returning to dress the trees, and the growth of new life in the field blanketing the earth in green. We can count on the water cycle, the life cycle, and the earth’s cycle around the sun, all in movement under the direction of the Creator God (Job 38-39). We can count on ALL of God’s promises found in Scripture throughout the coming new year.

“Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living Word of God I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God.”

Hallelujah, The Light Has Come

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the Light of the world: he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of life.”  John 8:12
