You Must Be Born Again

A ruler of the Jews came to Jesus by night in John chapter three and was told by the Savior, “You must be born again.” Nicodemus had experienced the first birth by being born into this sinful world through a physical birth. But Jesus told him he needed a second birth in order to see the Kingdom of God, a spiritual birth. A spiritual birth marks the beginning of having a spiritual life, of being introduced to the light of the Gospel, of living life with purpose, of God revealing Himself, the moment of being adopted into God’s family.

Jesus continued speaking to Nicodemus, “For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Have you been born again as Jesus commanded Nicodemus? Before you can begin building your faith you must have a faith to build on, the faith Jesus spoke of to Nicodemus. It is not a faith of works but of His mercy through the power of His Spirit (Titus 3:5). While trying to understand, Jesus referred Nicodemus to the wind and how it blows, not knowing from where it comes or where it goes, telling him, “…so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”

If you are reading this you have been born, but have you been born again? Have you been born of the Spirit? Have you become a new creation in Christ? Have you trusted Him for your eternity? Jesus said, “You must be born again.” Just as Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, come to Him where you are and tell Him, “I need to be born again by the Spirit of God.”
